Symbolic Fig Pastry Class
The St. Joseph Altar Ministry at St. Angela Merici is hosting a Symbolic Fig Pastry Class. The class will be taught by Renee Lauland and Janet Cruppi, Co-Chairs of the Ministry. The class will be held on Saturday, August 14th, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Kern Center (Gym). Participants will learn how to make the dough, proper support of the pastry, use of fig filling, and a variety of decorative techniques. The dough used in class will be a salt dough. (You will receive the recipe for edible dough as well).
Class Fee of $40 Includes: All ingredients for making the dough, fig filling, skewers for support, plastic cutting board, carving knife, parchment paper & plastic bags for wrapping completed designs and packet with recipes and instructions, history and symbolism of St. Joseph Altars. (Due to number of students and time constraints, symbolic pastries are NOT baked as part of the class. You will bake the pastry at home.)
Teachers will supply:
• Carving tools for participants to use in class
Participants must bring:
• Rolling Pin
• Apron
• Clean Kitchen Towel (Cheesecloth is ideal)
• Camera (To record your progression of the
process)
